The Shepherd’s Staff

I was reading in John 20 this week about the resurrection of Jesus. We are approaching that wonderful time of celebration we call Easter and I was just revisiting the story. As I was reading in verses 10-19 something occurred to me. I know that Mary Magdalene was missing her Lord. I know that she was shocked to find the tomb empty but something stood out to me. Peter and John had come to the tomb when told that it was empty. I love what we are told in verse 9, “He saw and believed. Mary continued to stay at the tomb. There are probably many and various reasons as to why she did but I could not help getting a picture of many of us today. We have been to the empty tomb. We understand that Jesus is no longer there but what impact has it had on us. Are we still lingering there or are we ready to go and proclaim that HE IS ALIVE!!!!!

Mary stayed there and Jesus then appeared to her. In that time together He gave her a task that still resonates with the Christians of today - “Go to my brothers and tell them.”

Church, there is no greater task for us than to leave the empty tomb and go tell the world that our Jesus lives. Go tell the world that HE IS ALIVE!!! We might be comfortable at the tomb. We might find peace in being there and knowing that He is no longer dead but there is a lost world that needs to hear from those who know the good news. Jesus is alive. Let us go and tell. Let us live like the redeemed. Let us walk like those who know that our Savior lives. Let us walk like we have been to the tomb and know first hand the resurrection power of God - not just on Easter but every day we live.

Dr Ergun Caner Returns to FBC

Returning to FBC March 14th for morning and evening worship, Dr. Ergun Caner, president of the Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and Graduate School at the Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Raised as the son of a Muslim leader in Turkey, Caner became a Christian shortly before entering college. Serving under his Chancellor and President, Jerry Falwell Jr., Caner led the Seminary to triple in growth since his installation in 2005. Week of Easter Services

First Baptist invites you to celebrate Easter with us as the theme this year is, "God Is Alive".

Events this season include:
March 28th, Palm Sunday - 10:15 am - "I Will Rise" by the Worship Choir
Maundy Thursday, April 1, 6 pm service
Sonrise Service, April 4, 7 am at Peter's Point followed by Continental Breakfast at 8:15 am and Life Groups at 9 am and morning worship in our worship center at 10:15 am.

Annie Armstrong ... a Sense of Urgency

To honor the life and work of more than 5,000 North American Mission Board missionaries serving throughout the United States, Canada, and their territories, March 7th begins a Week of Prayer for North American Missions. Gifts given to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering enable these missions personnel to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

Because every dollar given to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering goes directly to support missionaries and their ministries, we can be confident that offering our gifts is an investment in eternity. All through the month of March and into April, you will be encouraged to give.

Pray, asking God to show you what you can do to give aid to those who are sent. Then give. The goal at First Baptist this year is $5000. For more information, stop by the Annie Armstrong "URGENT" table March 7th.
